"Inside Printemps, Red Room Bar has shelves of rare art books for sale, and a bar up front under a giant chandelier. But the best seats in the house are the ones partially hidden under the spiral staircase, where you’ll feel the most like you’re sitting in a sexy little cocktail bar. Except you’re not—you’re in a French-ified mall, and you can buy a $2,000 red ruffly blouse after your drink if you so choose. The cocktails are complex and often successful, like the No Exit, a chartreuse and rum-based concoction, which your server will deliver to you along with a side of chartreuse history. (Only two people in the world know how to make chartreuse, so you’d better enjoy it while it lasts.) There are three bar snacks available—translucent plantain chips, candied pecans, and fried black eyed peas—and you should get all three if you’re even a little hungry. After your bar snack sampler, wander around the adjoining red room that features designer shoes displayed on white pedestals that look like plants." - Willa Moore
