Fountain Grains & Greens - Review - East Hollywood - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"We love that Fountain Grains & Greens keeps its menu short and seasonal. This casual counter-service spot in East Hollywood excels at exactly what its name suggests: bright, fresh grain bowls and salads made with local produce and proteins. So if you want your lunch order to sound like it came from a Flamingo Estate newsletter, look no further. In roughly ten minutes, you can get a crisp cobb salad with jammy eggs and tangy buttermilk dressing, housemade corn “lemonade,” or a kimchi rice bowl showered with chicken skin furikake for crunch. Street parking can be tricky, so ordering ahead of time is the move for a quick grab-and-go meal. Or you can eat your fancy salad on one of the sidewalk tables and marvel at the ominous Scientology building across the street. Food Rundown Kimchi Rice Bowl Our rice cooker has never made brown rice this soft. This filling bowl isn’t as punchy as its name suggests (it’s light on kimchi), but there’s a subtle sweetness to the garlic caramel that complements the grilled chicken and salty chicken skin furikake on top. photo credit: Sylvio Martins Fountain Cobb This is a picture-perfect cobb salad that tastes great, too. The thick wedges of little gem lettuce act as little boats for nuggets of crispy lardons, blue cheese, and avocado. The tangy buttermilk dressing is on the runnier side, but the jammy eggs thicken it once everything is mixed. photo credit: Sylvio Martins Avocado Toast In A Bowl Along with the half-avocado planted in the middle of this silly-named salad, we love its combination of frisee and butter lettuce, giant chewy sourdough croutons, pickled onions, and tangy za’atar dressing, which tastes like eating a delicious vinegar-doused hoagie, only a lot lighter. photo credit: Sylvio Martins Crispy Rice Salad If you enjoy crunchy things and salad dressings on the sweeter side, you’ll be into this. The fresh fruit on top periodically changes—one day it might be strawberries, the next mandarins—and complements the lemony yogurt and fruity sake kasu vinaigrette mixed in. The crispy puffed grains add a nice texture, but the large leaves of lettuce and fruit chunks make it hard to all capture in one mouthful. photo credit: Sylvio Martins" - Sylvio Martins
