Walk inside the nondescript building on Eastern Ave and you’ll find tanks of live seafood and packed banquet tables with all manner of steamed buns and fragrant bowls of shellfish. The fried crab claw arrives like a present: the server will use scissors to cut through a single baseball-sized orb of crispy shrimp-cake that’s wrapped around a claw full of sweet, briny meat. Dumpling lovers, don’t overlook the slouchy xiao long bao, and at least two kinds of shao mai: delicate shrimp and asparagus, and juicy pork and shrimp.
