"After slim pickings for years, Georgetown finally gets in on Seattle’s buzzy bagel fun with Bloom Bistro. The charming, pastel-laden shop serves many terrific bagel varieties, schmears, and sandwiches worth enduring the roars of aircraft flying overhead toward Sea-Tac. In particular, the rosemary salt bagel—with its delicate herbiness—deserves some sort of yeast-based trophy. photo credit: Nate Watters photo credit: Nate Watters photo credit: Nate Watters photo credit: Nate Watters Pause Unmute On weekend mornings, there may be a line out the door, but it usually moves quickly. And it’s nice to spend a little more time inside the historic Carlton Avenue Grocery building, listening to bouncy ska music mingle with the hiss of an espresso machine (try the cinnamon-forward Mud Honey Latte, if available). Though the bagels are the main draw, the sweet stuff behind the case from Pan De La Selva is excellent, too, including crumbly conchas and a gluten-free honey quesadilla that beats any pound cake. Order a few of those and a dozen bagels, and you’re set for a Sunday group breakfast feast. Food Rundown Bagels All the elements just work: pleasant maltiness, good chew, and crackly exterior. You don’t have to rush to eat them, either—freshness holds up well hours later (and they taste better untoasted). photo credit: Nate Watters Schmears There’s a lightness to each schmear that makes them easy to spread. We love the subtle heat from the honey-sriracha flavor the most, but the caramelized onion is another winner. photo credit: Nate Watters Breakfast Sandwich The BE in this BEC make for a powerful dynamic duo, like Batman & Robin or Bert & Ernie. We just wish there was good ol’ american cheese on top rather than sharp white cheddar to give the sandwich more of a salty gooey-ness. photo credit: Nate Watters Lox Sandwich This is one of our favorite lox sandwiches in town. Beet-cured gravlax is silkier than a Michael Bublé compilation, while zippy red onions and capers round it out. Get it on a poppy seed or sesame bagel to add some texture. photo credit: Nate Watters Pastrami-Mami The meat is okay and just ends up being an interloper in the passionate love affair between brie and a bright orange marmalade. photo credit: Nate Watters" - Gabe Guarente
