Magie isn’t afraid to embrace trendy wine bar clichés - Review - Miami - The Infatuation

"At Magie, basic is back. It says so in giant letters on the wall. The delightfully self-aware wine bar is the see-and-be-seen spot for UM students who just learned what skin contact means (in wine) and groups of 2007 La Salle grads who still rock heavy waterline eyeliner. Dino nuggets are cool here, bacon-wrapped dates aren’t (sorry) dated, and the fridge door to the orange wines is perpetually foggy. photo credit: Cleveland Jennings / @eatthecanvasllc photo credit: Cleveland Jennings / @eatthecanvasllc photo credit: Cleveland Jennings / @eatthecanvasllc photo credit: Cleveland Jennings / @eatthecanvasllc Pause Unmute Magie is a rare cool kids spot that’s also a judgement-free zone. You can have a photoshoot with your charcuterie board and feel no shame for picking wines based on the label (although the friendly staff will happily guide you to the good stuff). The space is filled with more Victorian couches than an estate sale of a Palm Beach heiress. Those, and the tables on the patio, are all first come, first served. But basic is apparently so back that it’s very hard to find an empty seat on a Friday night. So consider going early on a weekday. Food Rundown Charcuterie Plate Pick your own meats and cheeses from the cooler, bring them to the counter, and pay. For an extra $7, they’ll plate it for you with every charcuterie board’s best friends: sweet jam, olives, cornichons, and a sliced baguette. photo credit: Cleveland Jennings / @eatthecanvasllc Caviar Dino Nuggets Magie pulled a Jurassic Park and brought these dinosaurs out of extinction and back into our adult lives. You’ll see small herds of them parading around the dining room. They’re topped with crème fraiche, caviar, and a chive sliver. They’re pure camp and we love them. photo credit: Cleveland Jennings / @eatthecanvasllc Bacon-Wrapped Dates Remember when bacon-wrapped dates were on every menu? If you do, we bet there’s a photo of them you took with your Blackberry on your old Tumblr. These little dates filled with molten cheese taste just like 2009—sweet, simple, and bacon. photo credit: Cleveland Jennings / @eatthecanvasllc" - Virginia Otazo
