"When you’re out in Greenwich Village seeing music or comedy, there’s a good chance you’ll exceed your two drink-minimum. Having a solid late-night option for greasy food is vital, and Butter Smashburgers, open until 2am on the weekends, should be on your list. No wider than a subway car, the MacDougal Street spot has a tight menu of cheeseburgers, a chicken tender sandwich, veggie burger, fries, and ice cream. The most expensive item here is the double smashburger, which is a satisfying meal at $9, but the real hit is the chicken tender sandwich, which is coated in a slightly smoky chili oil. It’s a great after-hours snack, and pairs well with a crushed peanut and caramel sauce-topped vanilla soft serve. Food Rundown House Cheeseburger The burgers are smashed extra thin and crispy, slathered with special sauce and loaded with tons of pickles and some grilled onions. The single is $6, but the double is a more substantial meal if you’re in the area and have a hole that needs filling in your stomach. photo credit: Ashley Revness Fried Chicken Sandwich A solitary, fat chicken tender sitting in a fluffy bun, this is a pretty satisfying sandwich for $8. The chili oil gives it a little more character and heat and it’s got some crunch from a layer of mayo-ey cabbage. photo credit: Ashley Revness" - Will Hartman
