"You only invited two people over, and now someone’s cousin is on your couch asking for the WiFi. That's a good time to hit Smokehouse ATL BBQ, a food truck turned brick-and-mortar that serves hefty portions of slow-cooked BBQ. The small restaurant, located in a plaza on Old National, has just a few wooden tables inside and runs mostly as a takeout operation. No need to stress over ordering the right things for your crew since you can’t go wrong with anything here. The meats are tender and hold the smoke from the grill—from the juicy rib tips to the crispy whole chicken wings. And the sides are all excellent. The mac and cheese tastes like it’s been patiently cooked and not just haphazardly doused in cheese. The cinnamon-spiced yams are soft and sweet, and the creamy banana pudding makes you rethink how much room you thought you had left after eating a huge plate of ribs and potato salad. photo credit: Tabia S. It’s a heavy portion, meant for splitting. PlayMute video credit: Tabia S. Lisenbee-Parker Smoked Chicken Wings Crispy outside, soft inside, and full of deep smokey flavor. It taste like they took their time on these whole wings. photo credit: Tabia S. Lisenbee-Parker Glazed Salmon The fish is flaky, moist, and the perfect order if you want a lighter protein option but still craving the wood-smoked taste. Mac & Cheese This isn’t creamy or gooey mac and cheese, but it's also not dry or crusted over. It's a nice middle ground with a cheesy roux that gives it a hearty depth. photo credit: Tabia S. Lisenbee-Parker Potato Salad This potato salad is fantastic. Smooth and well-mixed, with no huge chunks or sugar overload, and just enough mustard to keep it sharp. Banana Pudding Is this the best banana pudding in town? Maybe. Thick and creamy with soft, almost cake-like layers. photo credit: Tabia S. Lisenbee-Parker Sweet Potato Pie This is small 4-inch pie with a buttery crust and spiced filling that leans warm, not overly sugary. It’s straightforward and excellent. photo credit: Tabia S.
