"Calling all fans of Poldark and anyone who enjoys reading Wikipedia entries about notable pirates, this pub on the Thames is really going to get the old nautical juices flowing. The Prospect Of Whitby in Wapping has been a drinking hole in one form or another since 1520 and since then, it was rebuilt following a fire, was sketched by J.M.W. Turner, got an oh-so casual visit from everyone’s favourite party gal, Princess Margaret, and most profoundly of all, had a cameo in an episode of Only Fools And Horses. These days, it's a haunt for tourists but still a charming place for a pint or for a low-key summer date out in their beer garden with skyline views. The British pub food can be fairly serviceable if you need something to eat—get the steak and ale pie with crispy, chunky chips (the mash option is a sad, congealed-ish state of affairs). photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Daisy Meager Pause Unmute" - Heidi Lauth Beasley
