Dozen Bakery - Review - Berry Hill - Nashville - The Infatuation

"Dozen, the beloved bakery that’s been around for over a decade here in Nashville, has a new space in Berry Hill. And it makes the old location look like a closet. But the quality and diversity of baked goods has remained thankfully unchanged, holding firm as one of the top bakeries in town. The sheer variety of pies and scones, cookies, and croissants has always been their claim to fame. That and melding interesting and otherwise unseen flavors alongside the classics. A snickerdoodle cookie sits politely next to a barley molasses walnut. Chocolate and cardamom or yuzu and jasmine enhance traditional madeleines. Croissants are loaded with bright lemon curd, others with chocolate and pretzel, and a particularly good one with parmesan and onion that brought up memories of sour cream and onion snacks. And when a new coffee shop opens up and needs some baked goods to sell along with their beans, it’s Dozen they call. The larger location lets them expand their menu, and some dishes are better (the sandwiches) than others (the salads). It also means there’s way more room to chat with friends over perfect strawberry galettes at the new location that’s swathed in white, and complete with a large dining area, ample counter space for laptops, and a true production-size kitchen. There’s even a cute little patio that’s tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Nolensville Pike. Food Rundown Lemon Bar Croissant Everything we love about a lemon bar in a croissant. The flaky horn is sliced in half like a sandwich, and a cool, creamy, and sharp lemon curd is piped inside. The whole thing is topped with a cookie-dough-esque crumble and powdered sugar. photo credit: Ann Walczak Salami Sandwich A super simple and delicious sandwich with just three ingredients in a baguette. The salami is full of peppercorns and fennel, and the supply between the bread is ample. The mustard-shallot butter is a real star, and the cornichon adds the kiss of vinegar the whole thing needs. The speed at which this sandwich can be eaten is fascinating to behold. photo credit: Erin Becker Chocolate Cream Pie Pies are pretty legendary at Dozen, and for good reason. This one, with a dark chocolate cookie crust and smooth chocolate filling, is the perfect finishing bite to a sandwich/salad combo. photo credit: Erin Becker" - Ann Walczak
