Salty’s makes good, giant sandwiches - Review - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The Civic Center-ish spot serves gargantuan sandwiches that will keep you full until your next circadian rhythm sets. Each one is about the size of a Costco-sized bottle of shampoo and inflated with some kind of meat. You should feel confident in ordering any of the 15 options—none of them will let you down. But the one we keep going back to is the Glorious Bastard with turkey, ham, and a garlic mayo that deserves to be cryogenically frozen for future generations. We also suggest stopping by in the morning for the breakfast sandwich with sweet and spicy chipotle-maple mayo. Most days, this place has an unending supply of regulars swinging by getting something to go, but if you have a moment to linger, there are a few tables that are perfect for eavesdropping on any neighborhood gossip. Food Rundown Sandwiches This is why you’re here. The Glorious Bastard has an unrelenting grip on us, mostly thanks to its garlicky mayo. Other great options are the Maui Crunch with a thick spread of tuna salad and Maui Onion chips, and the Sweet Heat, which combines roast beef with the chipotle-maple mayo that normally comes with the (also excellent) breakfast sandwich. Some sandwiches have small flaws, like uneven saucing and sodium overload, but you’ll still be very happy with whatever you get. photo credit: Patrick Wong" - Patrick Wong
