The British Pantry's English pub schtick isn't gimmicky—it's great - Review - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Between the framed portraits of the royal family and the abundance of UK accents from patrons and staff, this slightly musty pub might make you think you’re across the pond. The menu is full of British classics like bangers and mash and fish and chips, and they’re not just part of the English schtick—they're seriously excellent. In fact, all are worth blowing off work for a leisurely lunch followed by high tea. On your way out, hit the market next door that sells English treats like Viennese tarts and digestive biscuits, which will taste delightful after tearing into shepherd’s pie. Food Rundown Bangers & Mash The best dish at The British Pantry is also arguably the most classic. Their perfectly seasoned bangers have an excellent sear that locks in necessary juices, while velvety mashed potatoes and brown gravy are thick as thieves. Green peas are added for health. photo credit: Makena Yee Shepherd's Pie It graduated valedictorian at The Young Preperatory Conservatory Of Shepherd's Pie Studies, which is a private school in Bellevue that we completely made up. photo credit: Makena Yee Fish & Chips Beer batter enthusiasts, this one's for you. This crispy cod teeters on greasy, but tangy tartar cuts through the oil beautifully. The fries are the seasoned-battered kind—objectively the best for fish and chips. photo credit: Makena Yee Cups And Curry Sauce The same chips, only with a ramekin of tar-thick curry sauce for dunking. Order for the table. photo credit: Makena Yee High Tea Service As far as afternoon tea goes, you can't get more traditional than doing it at The British Pantry. Supple cucumber sandwiches and sweet tea cakes are a couple of the highlights, but there's no need to go out of your way for the service—just stick around after lunch and tack it on. photo credit: Makena Yee" - Aimee Rizzo
