Taco T - Review - Smyrna - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"You’ll see Taco T’s drive-thru and walk-in window with outdoor patio seating, and you might make some assumptions. That’s why this Smyrna taco stand has a sign near the order menu that emphatically says they are not fast food. So prepare for a 10-minute wait because they make your food fresh to order. And it shows—because this place serves up delicious tacos and other Mexican street foods, so it's a great stop when you don't want to leave your car. And actually, we don’t mind the extra time since we get to inhale the smells of juicy chicken and steak wafting through the air. Of course, the must-orders here are the tacos, which come on soft corn or crunchy tortillas that can be stuffed with a variety of well-seasoned meats. Think: stewy discada, braised beef, and pastor, but we like the thinly chopped grilled chicken because it's just juicy enough to soften your crispy tortilla without making a drippy mess in your car. Food Rundown Chorizo Burrito No shade to this burrito, but taking it to-go means things get a little too soggy for our liking. If you eat it immediately, the handmade flour tortilla holds up well under the weight of the rice, beans, cilantro, onions, and hefty amount of Mexican sausage inside. Mexican-Style Tacos This is our preferred mode for tacos here because we're cilantro-obsessed. You can get these (served with onions and mounds of cilantro) crunchy or soft with your choice of nine proteins. American-Style Tacos The only difference here is the onions and cilantro are swapped for lettuce, sour cream, and melty cheese. We like this version best with the crunchy taco shells because the melted cheese has a harder surface to cling to. And if you're not afraid of a mess, ask for American and Mexican style, so you can enjoy as much of the herby, cheesy, and oniony flavors that remain in the taco and not in your lap. photo credit: Sarah Newman photo credit: Sarah Newman photo credit: Sarah Newman Pause Unmute" - Juli Horsford
