Café Miami Review - Clapton - London - The Infatuation

"Cafés with bright, insta-friendly colours and boards outside that say ‘must chai harder’ have become part of the architecture of Hackney these days. Often we’re inclined to snort and laugh at these sorts of places before walking into a cafe that prides itself on its pickles and homemade furniture, thinking, somehow, we are not the mugs in this situation. Café Miami does the first thing. But, slightly annoying colour scheme and kitschiness aside, it’s a very good spot for a bit of breakfast or brunch. It’s a deceptive place for more reasons than one. The menu reads a little unspectacularly: avocado on toast, fish finger tacos, toasties. You feel like you may be about to be fleeced like any sucker from the Home Counties on a Hackney ‘urban safari’. Don’t worry though, it’s just underplaying itself. Avocado on toast comes with pickled radishes, a proper, crispy fried egg and prosciutto bacon on the side. Meanwhile fish finger tacos are homemade, enormous, fish fingers with some decent guacamole and pickled cabbage. It’s good, it’s fresh and it’s pretty filling. There are a load of posh toasties that are served on some very nice rye bread as well - we recommend the Swiss cheese, homemade pineapple chilli jam and prosciutto one. If kitsch isn’t your thing then bottle it up, because this place is worth a look." - Jake Missing
