"Excellent toasties and good coffee are the offering at Sons, a cheery kiosk in St John at Hackney churchyard. Run clubs stop by in the morning for charmingly branded cups of takeaway oat lattes, and the commuter crowd chat to staff as they wrap up cookies that are destined to be their afternoon slump sweet treat. But we like to stick around. There’s plenty of big wooden bench seating and a constant parade of fluffy Hackney dogs to praise and pet. Of the toasties, the tender, well-stuffed, salty beef brisket is our favourite. It has pleasing hits of mustard to cut through the richness, and we like adding a sweet chilli dipping sauce to aid in that effort." - Sinéad Cranna
