"If you were of bar-going age in the early 2000s, you might remember Silverlake Lounge as the iconic dive that hosted acts like early-career Tame Impala and Vampire Weekend. Well, after a closure, ownership change, and makeover, it’s now called Well Wishes for Silverlake Lounge (except absolutely no one calls it that). Despite its minor facelift, it still looks lived-in, with ‘70s-style wood panels and a velvet-lined stage. It's halfway between a music venue and a dance bar, making it a good place to catch a DJ set, sway a bit, and bum a cigarette off a 22-year-old bassist on the back patio. The crowd is a giant stew of every Silver Lake archetype, from club kids in tabis to goths and screenwriters who smell like vintage leather. And remember: this is a dive. The most sophisticated mixed drink on the short menu is an espresso martini. You’re here to dance, drink beer or simple cocktails, and flirt." - Sylvio Martins
