"If you’re looking for a place where you can pretend you are in Paris, don’t come to Medium Rare. The closest to France you’re going to get is in the bathroom, where a speaker plays instructions on how to flirt in French. But if you’re in Kips Bay looking for walk-in steak frites that won’t break the bank, this DC import is a solid bet. For $34.95 you’ll get warm, crusty bread, a small green salad, and a plate of culotte steak and fries, bathed in a “special sauce” that tastes like au poivre—minus the pepper. It’s not unlimited, but you do get seconds, and it’s enough. A sizable dessert list—with a very sizable chocolate cake—rounds out the menu." - bryan kim, willa moore
