Degthai - Review - Nolensville Pike - Nashville - The Infatuation

"Degthai, a fast-casual Thai spot on Nolensville Pike, is one of our favorite takeout operations in the city. This is where you can get your hands on deliciously flaky spring rolls, delightfully creamy shrimp pad thai, and other excellent Thai street food. The space is big and boxy, and always filled to the brim with people trying to vulture a table. This is mainly why we like it as a grab-and-go option—so we can eat our chicken stir fry topped with zingy Thai cucumber salad in peace. The servings here are generous and pretty much every entree can feed two people (like you, mountain of fried rice). The curries can be a bit underwhelming, but there’s plenty else on the menu to spend your time on. photo credit: Casey Irwin photo credit: Casey Irwin photo credit: Casey Irwin Pause Unmute You can choose the spice level for most of the main dishes, ranging from mild to—and we quote—assfire. Sometimes, names are misnomers. This is not one of those times. Go with the medium. And maybe have some chocolate milk nearby. Food Rundown Street Dumplings Degthai generously stuffs five pieces of spongy steamed dumplings with chicken and shrimp. And they’re perfect for soaking up every ounce of the savory soy-based sauce pooling at the bottom of the bowl. A strong starter. photo credit: Casey Irwin Crispy Spring Rolls The crunchy exterior tastes like a savory Pirouline, and it’s the flavor profile we’ve been missing in our spring rolls since we were old enough to say “mee krob.” The slight sweetness in the wafer-thin layers plays well with the minced chicken and stir-fried vegetables packed inside. And it’s that same sweetness that makes the side of plum dipping sauce unnecessary. photo credit: Casey Irwin OG Shrimp Pad Thai This is the best thing on the menu. The pad thai sauce here is spicy, acidic, and creamy all at once. And, when given a squirt of fresh lime, tangy too. The jumbo shrimp resting on top of the noodles are tender and deliver some light heat. photo credit: Casey Irwin Green Curry With all of the flavor-packed hits on the menu, the green curry is underwhelming. The curry lacks a depth of earthiness and herbaceousness, and the accompanying rice leans dry. photo credit: Casey Irwin" - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones
