Use your indoor voice at Burp Castle—or else - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"Belch too loudly at Burp Castle and you'll probably get shushed by the bartender. Open since 1992, this monastery-themed drinking hole in the East Village is (most of the time) the quietest bar in New York. Staff don’t exclusively wear robes anymore, and the music occasionally diverges from Gregorian chants, but the shushing is still vigorous—even if you’re talking in polite conversational tones in the tiny, caged-in sidewalk counter outside. There’s more atmosphere inside anyway, with murals of boisterous monks and a little note that says “Please Whisper” on the beer taps. It’s a great place to really give your undivided attention to a good Belgian or German brew. photo credit: Alex Staniloff photo credit: Alex Staniloff Pause Unmute" - Sonal Shah
