"What it was: A pandemic pop-up that served tacos and, eventually, steaks in an empty lot with chipping paint and picnic tables scattered around a big tree. The “kitchen” was just a grill in the corner of the patio. Somehow, it became the most fun restaurant in Miami before it closed in 2022, promising to return as a full-blown restaurant. What it is now: Still Sunny’s—and still the most fun restaurant in Miami—but better in every measurable metric. They’ve merged menus with Jaguar Sun (their defunct sister restaurant), built new dining rooms, dropped “steakhouse” from the name, and now serve too many delicious things to name here. And yes, that banyan tree is still there. Sunny’s releases reservations 30 days in advance. But if you missed that window, seats at their indoor bar are held for walk-ins. It's a small bar, but the full menu is available there. You might want to arrive 15 minutes before they open at 5:30pm to be safe." - virginia otazo, ryan pfeffer
