At Tokyo Bagel, the sugar crash comes quickly - Review - London - The Infatuation

"Tokyo Bagel is a sugar rush of a Japanese bakery in Waterloo. Eating here feels like being stuffed inside one of the sweet bakes they serve—there are faux rose-covered walls, pink velvet armchairs, and plates of honey toast doused in powdered sugar. But to be fair to this Disney princess of a cafe, that's sort of their whole goal. Phones are propped up on vases to get the best angle of influencers maniacally wobbling capybara-shaped jellies. And the food in general feels like a photogenic prop to hold up in front of those floral walls rather than something to actually enjoy. There are better Japanese bakeries in London, and better places along this stretch to grab some lunch. Food Rundown Honey & Butter Toast Tokyo Bagel’s honey toast is sickly sweet—thanks, in part, to the plate being doused in powdered sugar. The bottom is soggy, the texture gluey. Skip this. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Chicken Katsu Bagel Sando This is a pleasant enough bagel, with some nice chew and a pleasingly sticky, generous amount of sauce. Unfortunately it leans a little too sweet to enjoy the whole thing." - Sinéad Cranna
