"When Ember & Ash opened on East Passyunk in 2021, it wowed with unusual dishes like pig’s blood cannoli. Fast forward a few years, and the “wows” are now more like “mehs.” They have a new gastropub menu that seems to span the entirety of the UN: forgettable chicken liver mousse sits beside a briny-cheesy tuna carbonara, and you have to search for slices of swordfish crudo on top of a charred sunchoke hashbrown. Spoiler alert: none of the new food works, least of all the burnt $24 burger topped with brown iceberg, and the service is as disjointed as the menu. We never thought we’d say this, but it makes us miss the pig’s head. photo credit: Alison B. Kessler photo credit: CANDIS R. MCLEAN photo credit: CANDIS R. MCLEAN photo credit: Alison B.
