"Maryam’s Kitchen only opens for a few hours—9:30am-2:30pm—and is closed on Sundays and Mondays. The message is loud and clear. This is a family-run spot where lunch breaks are taken seriously, and so are, say, naps. Maryam herself will inevitably be the one piling Persian, pomegranate-forward salads onto your plate and checking that your ghormeh sabzi is OK (it is). Like the orange and yellow blinds, and sun rays painted on the walls, she’s a cheery force and much of the reason why we like this Ealing spot so much. The crowd—leisurely artistic types in big beaded necklaces and smocks, and sporty couples seeking healthy lunches—add to the laid-back vibe. While this isn’t the kind of food you cross train lines for and plan days around, we like Maryam’s for restorative, homey lunches when we’re in the area. Food Rundown Salad Platter Whatever you’re getting at Maryam’s, order the salad platter as a side or something for the table to pick at. The mix of dishes changes, but there’s always some kind of fresh, zingy salad, hummus, and flatbreads. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Ghormeh Sabzi The ghormeh sabzi is pleasingly herby, but we’d have liked more seasoning and the lamb was a touch tough. It’s still an enjoyable bowl, though. And the saffron rice is fluffy and delicious. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna" - Sinéad Cranna
