"We had high hopes for the arrival of Uchi, the buzzy, upscale Japanese restaurant new toRittenhouse. After all, there are popular outposts all over the country, and it’s been raved about by our pals inAustin,Miami, andLA. But Philly’s Uchi, while definitely high energy, feels more like a hotel restaurant from the early aughts than a 2025 destination. It’s discordantly separated into three sections—guests abruptly walk into a wall of booths upon arrival—but the wood-paneled sushi bar section is definitely the place to be. Music thumps, colorful drinks flow, and what we can only assume are real estate agents hang around the dark corners making too-loud phone calls. But despite all the drapery and sconces worthy of a Cheesecake Factory’s swanky cousin, little excitement is found on the plate." - Alison B. Kessler
