"Inspired by the jazz clubs of 1930’s Shanghai, this immersive French-Chinese spot blends classical French technique with regional Chinese flavors on a bold, modern menu, all set to live jazz and intimate interiors that make it feel like stepping into a hidden club where every plate, pour, and performance drives the atmosphere. We saw chef Jiwon Kim’s creativity in dishes like shrimp French toast, “Beef & Broccoli” au poivre with American wagyu and peppercorn fries, and Tai Chi fried rice layered with duck confit, foie gras, and squid ink—less fusion than a true cultural conversation. A Shanghai 75 cocktail joins a beverage program led by Joo Lee that spans French wines and funky orange wines from new-wave natural producers, balanced enough to meet duck confit and foie gras while staying casual for shrimp French toast and spicy fried chicken. Weekly jazz nights land every Wednesday and Thursday, with brunch and happy hour on the horizon, plus collaborations with local Park Slope partners like Breadivore Bakery (run by Cixiu Gao, formerly of Bouchon Bakery and Three MICHELIN Star Per Se). Paying homage to Shanghai’s “Paris of the East” era—its French Concession elegance and Shidaiqu soundtrack—this is that history reimagined for Brooklyn today." - Kevin Chau
