"Inside the 13th-century basilica I looked up just inside the entrance and saw a withered hand dangling from a meat hook — the grisly reminder that, as the story goes, a thief trying to steal jewels from a statue of the Virgin Mary had his hand grabbed by the statue until parishioners (many from the Prague Butchers’ Guild) amputated it and hung it as a warning; it’s still there centuries later and is a regular stop on ghost walking tours, which I recommend if you want something offbeat." - Matthew Kepnes
