Tenerife Clamps Down On Overtourism With Daily Visitor Caps And A New Eco-Tax

Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to Spain’s highest peak, Teide, this national park is now subject to new controls including an online booking system for some of its trails, the introduction of an ‘eco-tax’ for tourists visiting the peak, and the installation of security cameras to regulate visitor numbers and monitor overcrowding, measures that environmental groups argue are still insufficient given its roughly four million annual visitors. - Liv Kelly
