"Touted as a world-first pilot and launched on 18 February by Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, this dedicated facility at Singapore Expo enables short-term international business travellers to stay and hold in-person meetings without serving quarantine. In its first phase it offers 150 hotel-style guest rooms (including a Premier King Room with a courtyard view) and 40 meeting rooms that fit between four and 22 people, and will expand in phases to a peak capacity of about 1,300 travellers. Arrivals fly into Changi, take a PCR test and are transported to the facility; once a negative result is confirmed they may use the site but are subject to regular COVID-19 testing, temperature checks and are not permitted to leave. To prevent contact with the local community the site is “bubble-wrapped” with separate access and ventilation for resident areas, some meeting rooms feature airtight floor-to-ceiling glass panels, and safe-distancing is enforced. Room rates start from S$384 for a minimum 24-hour stay, meeting rooms are bookable by the hour from S$20 (four-person) to S$200 (22-person), bookings are open via the facility website, and the project is spearheaded by Temasek with support from Changi Airport Group, The Ascott Limited, Sheares Healthcare Group, SingEx-Sphere Holdings and Surbana Jurong; the first guests are expected in March." - Rachel Eva Lim
