"Kumano-bettei Nakanoshima is blessed, first and foremost, with an astonishing location, on a small and densely forested island at the mouth of Wakayama’s Katsuura Bay. There’s been a ryokan on this site for 80 years, but in 2019 a new building expanded the capacity of the only lodging on the island. Hot-spring baths are present as a matter of course, as are a number of classically Japanese tatami-style rooms; they’re joined by luxurious Western-style rooms in a colorful contemporary style.
