"The resort town of La Grande-Motte isn’t your garden-variety Mediterranean getaway: conceived in the 1960s as an eco-friendly modernist seaside utopia, it’s a product of ambitious urban planning. While Hôtel La Plage is not as eye-catching — or as eyebrow-raising — as its pyramid-shaped neighbors, this luxury resort was designed in the same bold spirit. Low-lying and geometric, it sits right on the beach, with floor-to-ceiling glass revealing sweeping ocean views from most rooms. The look is minimalist but down-to-earth, with natural hues, clean lines, and lots of native wood, and all have private balconies or terraces.
