"Verified by Guinness World Records as the world's deepest pool, I was struck by its 60-meter (about 197-foot) depth and 14 million liters (roughly 3.7 million gallons) of water—just shy of six Olympic-sized swimming pools. Shaped like a giant oyster as a nod to the Persian Gulf's pearl-diving history, the facility invites exploration of a theatrical "sunken city" complete with "abandoned" apartment buildings, an underwater arcade, submerged automobiles and musical instruments. It features advanced safety and support systems, including the region's most advanced hyperbaric chamber, a state-of-the-art lighting, sound and mood system, and an intense filtration setup that uses NASA technology, volcanic rock, and UV radiation to circulate the water every six hours. The operators emphasize a safe, year-round experience with outstanding instructors and programming for free divers, scuba divers, and snorkelers of all levels—beginners can take introductory courses, certified divers can book guided deep dives, children have dedicated programs, essential equipment is provided, and visitors can take facility tours, shop on-site, or view the action through large windows and video screens. Abdulla Bin Habtoor said the Deep Dive Dubai team hopes to embody the determination of Emirati explorers and innovators while providing a platform for future achievements and discoveries." - Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca is an award-winning journalist and co-founder of Be a Travel Writer, an online course for the next generation of travel journalists.
