"Hidden behind an unassuming entrance in Bernalda, this Francis Ford Coppola hideaway felt more like a family home than a hotel: I stepped through sage-colored doors into a leafy courtyard, sat beneath terracotta red umbrellas sipping an espresso during check-in, then toured vine-wreathed parterres and fragrant gardens. There’s a Cinecittà-themed bar opening onto the street that serves superb woodfired pizzas, and a notably lovely pool at the far end of the garden surrounded by lush greenery with its own private bar. The property reflects a lengthy restoration with Jacques Grange; suites named for members of the Coppola clan (including Sofia, who married here in 2011) are largely dressed in lavish southern Baroque style, and the whole place reads as a quiet slice of paradise created in 2012." - Liam Hess
