"Seeking a more transcendent and secluded experience, I ventured to a remarkable cliffside pool in Húsavík—a remote northeastern fishing village on the coast of the Greenlandic Sea—where a dramatic entranceway submerged in a grassy hilltop signaled an ode to Nordic design rather than just another rustic geothermal bolthole. Designed by Icelandic firm Basalt, the undulating concrete structure fuses with the landscape and opens to the ocean, visually merging with five joined geothermal infinity pools. The piping-hot water—a silken mix from both sea and land—continuously circulates and requires no chlorine, and my road-trip aches vanished as I soaked in views of the mountain range to the west, Skjálfandi Bay below, and the Arctic Circle on the horizon. During the seemingly endless summer daylight, it’s a prime spot to watch the midnight sun, and as the newest place on the swim scene, it feels both transcendent and deeply connected to the area’s centuries-old use of geothermal heat for bathing." - Mosha Lundström Halbert
