"The market town of Charlbury is close enough to London to make this first-rate pub with rooms unusually reachable as a weekend escape: it’s a single train from Paddington and a 10-minute walk from the station. Inside, a pared-back restaurant with exposed beams, open fires, and plaster walls gives way to ten bracingly simple bedrooms with little artificial light and a neutral palette, yet plenty of creature comforts—standalone baths, radios, woolen blankets, and rainfall showers; families can also take over the two-bedroom Loaf Cottage down the road (children aren’t allowed in the other rooms).
