"At Arroz & Fun, the bread is the star. The bolo bao breakfast sandwich at this all-day cafe in Lincoln Heights comes on a pineapple bun with a crumbly golden top that’s sweet enough to qualify as a dessert but balances nicely with fluffy eggs, melted cheese, and a throat-tingling hit of sibing restaurant Chifa’s aji pepper sauce. You could add Spam or chorizo for a bump of saltiness, but even as-is, you’re left wondering what other pastries deserve a shot as breakfast sandwich buns." - garrett snyder, arden shore, brant cox, cathy park
"While brunch tends to be an affair, Arroz and Fun shows it doesn’t to be. This low-key counter-serve spot may be best known for its bolo breakfast, with eggs and cheese stacked between slices of a Chinese pineapple bun; bacon, hash browns, and more are available to add on. The arroz section features soboro don with smoked ground chicken thighs and egg yolk, alongside a vegan and gluten-free kabocha squash congee. If arriving before noon, the French toast made with Japanese milk bread is a must-order." - Rebecca Roland
"A sister restaurant within the family’s small group where the younger generation has taken leadership roles; it functions as part of the broader effort to preserve and expand the Leon family’s Chinese-Peruvian culinary legacy and is one of the recommended places to support the family after their January 2025 Southern California wildfire losses." - ByElyse Inamine
"For an easy breakfast or lunch, head to Arroz & Fun. The bolo bao sandwich is the dish to order and comes filled with breakfast staples, chicken, mushrooms, and more. Also, find a kabocha squash congee and pollo guisado on the menu." - Eater Staff
"When we heard the family behind Chifa had opened another restaurant, we expected stunning furniture and custom drapery. But Arroz & Fun is a much more casual counter-service spot in Lincoln Heights serving an all-day menu of Chinese and Salvadoran dishes. The small cafe also has a menu dedicated entirely to coffee drinks like a tamarind lychee coffee spritzer and Hong-Kong style coffee milk tea. Arroz & Fun has a few indoor tables and a surprisingly spacious back patio, which is a great place to post up for a last-minute brunch. We’d recommend stopping by on a slow Saturday morning for a bowl of comforting kombucha squash congee or a plate of pollo guisado on a bed of fluffy white rice." - Nikko Duren
