"You’re at Caracol de Mar, from the chef behind Contramar and Entremar, for the incredible seafood—and to sit in a beautiful space that feels like a seaside mansion thanks to floating seashells, squid paintings, and an impressive natural fiber art installation by Mexican artist Beatriz Morales. The menu is packed with all the great things that come from the sea: ceviches that are as fresh as it gets, spicy aguachiles, fish al pastor tacos, and seasonally changing small plates like pulpo al carbón. Like its sibling restaurants, there’s also a must-order tuna tostada on the menu, but this version is topped with furikake." - guillaume guevara

"After opening in the Centro Histórico neighborhood in late 2021, Caracol de Mar has adopted Condesa as its new home. Gabriela Camara’s hospitality and vision shine the brightest at the newest iteration of the restaurant, which welcomes guests with bar seating and cocktails on the first floor and a stunning salon filled with natural light on the top floor. The culinary ethos remains, with sustainability and seasonal seafood at the core and all-time menu favorites in tow. Order the green mole risotto, the grilled octopus, and the braised short rib with black sauce. Caracol de Mar also offers Contramar’s most beloved dish: grilled fish with red and green sauce." - Natalia de la Rosa, Daniela Galarza

"Caracol de Mar has a prime position in the city center near the Metropolitan Cathedral, but the location isn't the only reason this spot stands out from the crowd. This seafood-focused restaurant mixes Mexican culinary knowledge with touches of Peruvian cuisine, and the moderate prices are a boon in an area not known for being wallet friendly. Begin with aguachile de camarón, a deliciously fresh dish that is as beautiful as it is refreshing. Pulpo al carbón de olote is a well-prepared plate with good flavor and a delightful smoky note. To finish, the passion fruit granita, if offered, is as simple as it is delicious." - Michelin Inspector

Really nice restaurant! Beautiful decor with a statement art piece on the wall. we had two of their ceviches, plus tuna belly dish and the fish tacos and all were amazing. The tortillas that they serve were probably some of the tastiest I’ve ever had in my life.

Seafood Heaven (But Choose Your Day Wisely!) ⭐⭐⭐⭐ If you're a seafood lover, Caracol de Mar is worth checking out. They have a small but original menu, and the food is undeniably great. The Good: -Amazing Seafood: The seafood is the star of the show. -Original Menu: They offer unique and interesting dishes. -Good Desserts: Don't skip dessert! The Not-So-Good (Important to Note!): -Slow Service on Busy Days: The service can be really slow when it's crowded. -Hostess Issues: The hostess doesn't always respect the order of arrival. -Window Seating on Sunny Days: Avoid tables near the windows on hot, sunny days. It gets hot. The Bottom Line: Caracol de Mar is a fantastic option for seafood, but only if you go on a less crowded day. Be prepared for potential service issues and be mindful of where you sit, especially on sunny days.

Wonderful experience. The restaurant is beautiful, drinks were delicious and strong, and the octopus was a highlight! Only wish it was slightly less salty. The ceviche was also great too. Only wish the sauce was slightly less thick. The service was lovely too. Very attentive. I agree with a previous patron that perhaps maybe too quick to the table, although his review was unnecessarily rude. This is how fine dining usually is, if you prefer, McDonald’s is always another option if you want to be ignored by the staff. They just almost cleared several places before we were ready. We wanted to finish the delicious food! But they were lovely, professional, informative, and kind.

What a cool place. If you love seafood this is where you MUST go. Simply gorgeous and cool place, seemingly suspended among trees, with a sexy vibe from sunup to sundown. The main room is airy and cozy with a gigantic art piece and the trees all around. Service is very attentive and they always have some great recommendations. Personal favourites are the crab salad and chocolate tamales.

Service is incredible. Food is outstanding. Oysters - 5/5 Tacos - 5/5 Grilled Fish - 5/5 Pulpo - 5/5 Desserts - 5/5 The oysters are super fresh and the salsas that come with them are delicious. The tacos are all delicious. The red and green salsa fish is incredible. Fish is cooked perfectly. The octopus was also delicious. Desserts are super tasty. Service was phenomenal. The entire menu is amazing. Very fun spot.

I'd still consider coming back for an appetizer and a drink as "Tostada de Atun" and "Tostada de Pulpo" appetizers were great. Unfortunately I can't say the same for the rest of the dishes our group tried. Some dishes like "Pescado a la talla Contramar" had negative flavor. It was missing salt and spices. The taste was just not there for me. The smell of "Camarones al ajillo" was horrifying. It was supposed to be garlic shrimp but the shrimps were soaks in some oil and there was a strange smell to it nothing resembling the garlic. I tried a small bite of it but couldn't have any more feeling nauseous from the smell and side taste. "Risotto con mole verde" had soupy texture and tastes slimy more than anything. We came for dinner midweek. There were only a few tables occupied. The vibes were not bad, the design is cute and the servers were attentive. I think this place is overrated or perhaps we tried the wrong dishes.

Delicious food + cocktails, beautiful restaurant, and incredible service. Our waiter, Pedro, he was so friendly and on the ball. The bartender was also great. I enjoyed my house mezcalita and my partner enjoyed Mexican chardonnay. Highly recommend the Caracol with cauliflower dish!

I was really looking forward to visiting this place after seeing the stunning photos on Google and reading that it was featured as a Bib Gourmand spot. Like most tourists, I was intrigued by the hype. Unfortunately, it turned out to be just a pretty place for tourists—definitely not for Mexicans or Latinos who know their seafood. To be clear, I’m not judging anyone’s taste, but the reality is… the only good dish was the oyster ceviche. Everything else either lacked salt or had way too much of it. You could easily spot the locals—they were the ones asking for salt. The presentation was beautiful, but out of everything we ordered, the only thing we actually liked was the oyster. We ended the meal with the risotto, which was overly salty and looked pretty basic, considering the effort they put into plating everything else. As a ceviche lover, I felt genuinely let down. There was nothing interesting or unique about the seafood dishes, and honestly, you can find much better aguachiles and fresh fish at a fraction of the price elsewhere. The service was excellent, though. We didn’t even dare try the desserts—it felt pointless at that stage. One thing that really stood out to me was the wine pricing: a single glass for 8 to 10 euros, which is about the price of a whole bottle in most countries. That felt a bit off. In the end, I think the place is designed more for the tourist looking to sip on a “mezcal margarita” and snap an Instagram photo rather than for someone genuinely interested in great seafood. One last thing—I swear—the spiciness has been toned down so much that it didn’t even register. My stomach appreciated it, but it’s not what I was expecting. Honestly, I wouldn’t go back.
