Mary Coyle – Sedona, Arizona - Gastro Obscura

"When Mary Coyle moved to Phoenix from Ohio in 1951, she brought a knack for making ice cream with her from the midwest. Her namesake parlor, Mary Coyle Ol’ Fashion Ice Cream, continues to survive and thrive in a smaller, nearby location, 72 years later. At 16% butterfat, the ice cream itself is ultra-rich and is still made on-site to this day using the original recipes that first made Mary a success. Not only are the options premium, but they’re also expansive. The variety of flavors—an unexpected feature for a classic ice cream parlor—is a thrill in and of itself. Choose from a wide range of popular and nostalgic flavors, from black raspberry to black licorice, spumoni to burgundy cherry. Carefully sourced ingredients, such as the nuts in the butter pecan and maple walnut flavors sourced from Mount Hope, in Sedona, make each scoop shine. The new location’s checkerboard floors, neon soda fountain sign, and pink-striped walls (which harken back to the original location) let you know you’re in for a deliciously sweet time travel session. Know Before You Go While the ice cream doesn't need any additions, it's hard to go wrong with the maraschino-crowned milkshakes or the over-the-top sundaes." - rachelrummel, j3taylor, cdanesh
