Clarke Quay – Landmark Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"What's the story behind this place? It's a beautiful riverside quay in Singapore home to a clutch of historic warehouses. In the 1800s, this was one of the centers of trade, when barges would transport goods upstream for storage. Today, the warehouses have been restored and painted in rainbow hues, making this a great photo spot. Instagram-worthiness aside, Clarke Quay has also become one of Singapore's food, drink, and entertainment hubs—the whole area has been converted into an open-air pedestrian precinct filled with restaurants, bars and clubs. Will we need a guide to help us get around? There are private tour operators, but it's a place that's easily explored on your own. You can also book river cruises from the piers along the waterside to take you down the Singapore River. Who comes here? It's a hotspot for friend groups, dates, and tourists.  So why would you recommend it? If you're after a bit of nightlife or a good meal, this place will do the job. There are plenty of options and it's lively most nights of the week, so you won't be disappointed. Note: Most restaurants are also open in the day, but it's much quieter then. And who do you think would most enjoy it? This is best for those who are looking for a bit of a buzz, whether it's by trying one of Singapore's most popular hot pot restaurants, open till the wee hours ( Hai Di Lao ), checking out its most famous club ( Zouk ), or going for a round of mini golf and drinks ( Holey Moley ). This is also one of the most convenient places to go pub-hopping—there are numerous options here to suit any age, budget, or music/dining preference." - Audrey Phoon
