Melbourne Cricket Grounds, East Melbourne, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia - Sports Venue Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"Give us the big picture: What’s the vibe of the place, what’s it like? MCG, or “The G" as it's known, is an institution both in Australia and worldwide. It's the largest cricket pitch in the Southern Hemisphere, and was the site of the 1956 Olympic Games. What kinds of events can we see here? In addition to hosting Cricket World Cups, the stadium also is where Aussie rules football games, or footie, are played. Plus rugby, soccer, and more. Nice. How are the seats? Look, it's a sports stadium, so the good seats are going to cost you, but Aussies are known to be some of the most passionate and vibrant fans, so you almost want to sit in the nosebleeds to get the full experience. Good for kids? Kids will fare well if they dig sports. Cricket matches are known to drag on, though, so if they're not particularly interested, prepare to have some other entertainment ready to occupy them. Anything in particular that makes this place special, from the programming to a unique feature it has? The G is home to the National Sports Museum, so be sure to check that out. It also has the world's tallest light towers, and is the largest capacity cricket ground in the world. If we’re going to be in town, what—and who—do you think this is best for? Sports fans of all ages should definitely come for a game while in Melbourne." - Krista Simmons
