"Cervinia, a resort town in northwest Italy, received two meters (six and a half feet) of snow during the storm. As a result, the only road leading out of the resort was impassable, shutting down for a full 24 hours and forcing 10,000 tourists to stay put. Once the passage reopened Friday, cars were lining up to leave. “[It was an] unbelievable amount of snow,” Steven Hammond, a frequent skier at Cervinia, told the Times. “We’ve been here for the last seven years on family holidays but have never seen it like this.”"
