"How did it strike you on arrival?Hotels seem passé the minute you wander through the wrought-iron gates into Buonanotte Garibaldi, a peaceful art-studio converted in to a bed and breakfast for inquisitive travelers. There’s a vine-strewn garden, for starters, or the front room, with plush velvet lounges for sinking down upon, or the piano in the corner, music stacked high beside it. It’s basically an Italian-style riad, the perfect place to let your days drift by, lounging on one of the outdoor armchairs, or perhaps chatting to lovely hotel manager David over plates of croissants and piping hot espresso. Nice. What’s the crowd like?Buonanotte Garibaldi is boho paradise, so expect to see posh hippies, or style mavens after something exotic in the Eternal City. Pack your kaftans and espadrilles if you want to fit in. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. The Tinto Room has been decorated by Buonanotte Garibaldi’s owner, watercolor artist Luisa Longo, and there are plenty of pleasing artistic touches throughout, like the 1800s-era Italian costume paintings covering one wall. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?The bedroom's comfortable and unique—the silk cream and sage duvet cover, for example, is handmade, and the carved wooden headboards are anything but ordinary. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?Wi-Fi is free and fast, even in the garden. Room service: Worth it?There’s nothing as common as room service here; instead, take advantage of the Testaccio address and nip into any of the buzzy osterias in the area. Ask David for a recommendation at breakfast. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay? Our only criticism is that the bathrooms are a little small, but you’ll soon move past that minor irritation. Instead, head into the courtyard—where there are pleasing design touches in every nook and cranny—and treat the whole place like your own." - Maresa Manara
