Pousada de Lisboa

"Tell us a little about this place.Located steps from the Tagus River on Lisbon’s most iconic square, Praça do Comércio, this recently restored property embodies the nexus of Portuguese luxury and heritage. It would be easy to spend your entire time in the lobby and lounge, which is adorned with museum pieces on loan, but after checking in to one of the tastefully opulent guest rooms, you might just spend your whole vacation there. Great location, and top-notch design: count us in. Who else stays here?Regulars and first-timers favor this classic hotel for its art, restored moldings, stained-glass windows, and modern furniture. We're part of that contingent. How was check-in? Part of the Pestana Hotel Group, this property's hospitality is consistently stellar, from check-in to check-out. Take a moment to get lost exploring the hotel’s nooks and crannies, which are filled with one-of-a-kind artwork. Excellent. Now, onto the good stuff: Tell us about the digs.Rooms retain the regal air of the property's previous incarnation, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but with an added dose of luxury; baroque moldings complement the modern furniture and soothing blue-and-white palette. Tip: In the Mezzanine rooms, stairs separate the bedroom from the living area, and some offer a view of Castelo de São Jorge. How about the little things, like the mini bar, or shower goodies? What made your stay more comfortable? All rooms come with a mobile phone—with data—that you can use while exploring Lisbon. In-house amenities include a minibar, a plush bathrobe and slippers, and air conditioning. Excellent. How about room service, and the dining options in general? Worth it?Rib Beef & Wine draws patrons—guests and non-guests alike—with its meaty mains. Order the tenderloin tips with pineapple pickle and Portuguese wine sauce. Thanks for the tip. Is there anyone on staff we should become fast friends with?Tap the concierge for in-the-know recommendations that will steer you away from the crowds. Will do. Any other services or features you want to shout out? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.Don’t miss the sleek indoor swimming pool and private sunbathing deck. Got it. Bottom line: Why is this place worth our time and money? It's a taste of Portuguese heritage and luxury." - Jenna Scatena
