"Why did this hotel catch your attention? What's the vibe? The design at American Beech manages to fit somewhere between LA, Miami Beach, and Greenport. There are whitewashed suites, an Instagrammable bar, and large plants outside to welcome you. Somehow, the three styles all come together to make one of the chicest places on the North Fork. What's the backstory?Once a 19th-century horse stable, American Beech has been entirely redone to house a hotel, restaurant, and bar. Tell us all about the accommodations. Any tips on what to book? There are only 11 rooms at this boutique hotel, so book in advance during peak season. Note that some are located over the bustling restaurant, so if you’re looking for peace and quiet, opt for one of the other rooms located around Stirling Square. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at?American Beech is as much about the restaurant and bar as it is about a place to stay. The roomy restaurant (which is closed during the winter) can accommodate large parties, so if you’re visiting the North Fork for, say, a bachelorette, this is a great choice. The menu hops around from cumin-cured duck wings to spaghetti squash latkes and a smash burger with cheddar. It’s a bit unfocused, but that also means everyone will find something to enjoy. And the service?Even with a large party, the staff at American Beech was gracious, unflappable, and helpful. What type of travelers will you find here?Like many vacation destinations, the scene at American Beech welcomes all kinds, but you’ll want to dress up a bit for dinner as most of the diners are stylish New Yorkers out here for the weekend. Any other hotel features worth noting?American Beech is located in the heart of Greenport, so if you’re looking for convenience—particularly after a night out—this is a great option. Bottom line: Why should we choose American Beech? For style hunters and large groups, its offerings are the best in the area." - Devra Ferst
