"After a six-week closure sparked by immigration-enforcement fears, this sprawling 45-acre open-air market in North Las Vegas reopens Friday at 4 p.m., resuming its normal weekend schedule. Since 1977, it has served North Las Vegas and the larger Southern Nevada community, and management said the shutdown was made out of an abundance of caution for vendors, customers, and staff, many of whom are immigrants or have immigrant family members. The closure displaced more than 1,100 small businesses, including food vendors like Birria de Res Zacatecas, Pupuseria El Cordero, and Las Enchiladas de Mama, who sell everything from handmade pupusas and birria tacos to mango chamoy snacks. Opening weekend will be marked by family-friendly activities, kids’ attractions, and a food fair, and the Instagram reopening announcement drew both excitement and calls for clearer guidance on steps being taken to protect the community." - Janna Karel
