"I've watched the 13-year-old Austrian pub Blaue Gans serve Tribeca for over a decade, offering Austrian and German classics such as schnitzel and sausage and drawing diners with a focused selection of Austrian wine. The cozy room, which once housed bistro Le Zinc, keeps some posters from that era alongside many more that Gutenbrunner added until the walls were covered, and geese and duck figurines fill out the space. Though the neighborhood prized the restaurant, it never quite rose to the same status as Gutenbrunner’s more renowned Wallsé in the West Village; the Times last reviewed it in 2006 with one star and Pete Wells revisited this year. Kurt Gutenbrunner is now paring down to focus on his other restaurants — including Wallsé, Upholstery Store in the West Village, and Café Sabarsky on the Upper East Side — with staff from Blaue Gans to be reshuffled to those locations, and the spokeswoman confirms Blaue Gans closes after service on September 30. As Frank Bruni puts it, “Blaue Gans lets sexier restaurants canoodle with day-boat lobster and diver scallops. It flirts with trout, which appears twice on the menu.”" - Stefanie Tuder
