"Slow-cooked, tender beef birria is the star standout at Mike’s Red Tacos, a restaurant founded by Mike Touma, San Diegan who had a passion for birria and started his business as a food truck in 2021. Touma has two locations now (Point Loma and Clairemont Mesa), where the birria combination plates are top sellers — each plate comes with two birria tacos (with or without cheese), consomé, cilantro, onion, and chips. The two other taco options are the keto taco with beef birria, cilantro, and onions in a hard cheese shell, and the veggie taco with sauteed portobello mushrooms, bell peppers, poblano peppers, beans, and potatoes, all dressed with guacamole, cilantro, and onions. The restaurant would be incomplete without its black-and-red color palette and busy crowds.
