"I tracked Neighborhood Donut Society back to a pop-up that first appeared around fall 2020 with pickup opportunities in southeastern Massachusetts and, more recently, pop-ups closer to and within Boston at places like Colleen’s in Medford and Tokava in Jamaica Plain. Founder Anna-Li Claiborne — a hospitality veteran of 25-plus years — developed the recipe with her daughters (who created the Instagram account) and her doughnut-loving husband helps on pop-up days; she says the pandemic prompted the career change and that there is clear demand for mochi doughnuts in Boston, with hopes for a brick-and-mortar by fall 2022.
