"Opening a second location today at 2800 S. Randolph Street in the Village at Shirlington, Stellina Pizzeria pairs a restaurant and market with a deli case selling fresh pasta by the pound, pizza dough, imported meats and cheeses, other antipasti, and sweets; the market also features a freezer of ready-to-bake lasagna and pizza and dry goods like pasta, beans, polenta, olive oil, vinegar, and jam. I note that the space favors a deli counter over a formal bar and offers batched and bottled cocktails designed to be portable for neighborhood outdoor drinking (including two types of Negroni on tap), with plans to add aromatic ice cubes; a pasta vending machine stationed outside since late January has already drawn national and local headlines and plenty of curiosity. Co-owner Antonio Matarazzo, who lives nearby, says the pandemic influenced the choice of Shirlington, and Stellina plans to seek an outdoor dining permit to eventually seat up to 20 on a heated patio and up to 75 indoors across two floors; for now the Shirlington location is open for pickup and delivery Tuesday through Sunday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m." - Kalina Newman
