"I'm excited about the new 2,000-square-foot Taco Bamba at 6259 Little River Turnpike that opens Wednesday, April 20 at 11 a.m.; this seventh location is personal for Chef Victor Albisu, who once worked in the area at his mother’s Latin market, and the neighborhood influences several dishes found only at the Landmark outpost. Highlights include the Starvin Marvin meatball torta (riffing on the nearby Starvin’ Marvin’s subs of Albisu’s youth), the Porque Pop taco stuffed with Korean-style chicken nuggets as a nod to nearby Koreatown in Annandale, a crispy sweet potato–filled Veggiemachatatte taco, and the Generous George quesadilla filled with spaghetti and meat sauce (a reference to Alexandria’s long-ago pasta-and-pizza house). The location also boasts a full-service bar, a covered patio, and agave-forward mixed drinks unique to this Taco Bamba, and the brand has other locations in the works (Gaithersburg later this spring, Herndon in summer, and a return to D.C. this fall)." - Adele Chapin
