"Berdena’s runs two cafes with equally strong coffee, food, and design sensibilities. The original Phoenix spot sits inside mini-shopping-complex the Frederick and brings a midcentury feel with terrazzo floors and bulbous pendant lamps that keep the space bright and calm. All pastries are made in-house — the banana bread is easily one of the best in the city. Berdenas’ menu covers all the cafe staples, from avocado toast pocked with chile flakes to a breakfast sandwich heaping with hand-carved ham, fried eggs, cheddar, arugula, and tomato. The shop regularly rotates who it sources beans from, so one month might feature a small roaster from upstate New York while the next might highlight someone local." - McConnell Quinn
