"I'm excited that a sugar rush is coming close to campus: after serving its popular donuts, cakes, and ice cream sandwiches in Lynwood for five years, Donut Factory is readying a new location near the University of Washington, right around the corner from Sharetea in the spot formerly occupied by Ly’s Donuts, with a mid‑May opening and a possible late‑April sneak preview according to founder Marc Sapatin. They're known for decadent items like glazed and cinnamon crobars (a flaky croissant‑doughnut hybrid in bar form), mango‑filled jelly donuts, and Instagram‑worthy ice cream sandwiches drenched in Fruity Pebbles and Oreo crumbles; with more than 80 varieties to choose from they’ll also introduce new flavors like an ube‑flavored doughnut and will keep shaping doughnuts into letters and shapes—likely making the purple yam–based ube into U’s or W’s for Huskies fans. The new 15–20‑seat space has been upgraded with more outlets and WiFi for students, will serve Pegasus Coffee espresso and ice cream floats as summer arrives, and marks the brand’s first official expansion despite having served the nearby UW Medical Center on contract for years." - Gabe Guarente
